Singapore

First Stop: Singapore

And so it begins! After some bubbles and wine on the plane (more for Daz than Jen) we arrived at what will be our home base for the next 6 months – Singapore. Mark picked us up and rushed us along to a suite in his hotel to freshen up before some drinks in the club lounge. I’m not sure this is how all backpackers start their trip and suspect we’ve got some way to come down from here.

Night one was an awesome dinner in private dining room at the Cantonese restaurant, Wah Lok, in the Carlton hotel,  with H+M, Juke and Hajin. Amazing food and a great way to shrug off the jet lag.

After dinner we headed back to Juke’s cool apartment for more bubbles and the world famous Wiltz negroni.

DAY 2….. a very late start perhaps running on UK time. The day (and all other days in Sing) started with a swim to wake up and fight the jet lag (more accurately known as hangover). The same crew as night one regrouped for drinks at a wine bar (Merchants on Duxton road), followed by a cool cocktail club, Operation Dagger, (serving chocolate infused pinot). We ended up finding ourselves in a banquet room in a Korean restaurant (Todamgol) a little after 1am eating spicey Army Stew soup (with luncheon meat aka spam) and drinking bottles of Korean Soju.

Needless to say, a swim was needed the next morning to shake off the persistent non-alcohol related jet lag. Night 3 was back on the horse with a nice home prepared meal at Mark and Hanse’s with and few glasses (… bottles) of red. #hottipfromdaz: when a Korean cooks up a snack at 2am that he describes as spicey it is MUCH too spicey for weak daz to handle. #error

Beware of above…..SOOOO SPICEY!!!

Singapore capped off with great food at the Newton hawker market.  With our bags now repacked, tomorrow morning we head off to Palawan in the Philippines. Singapore has been the perfect first stop – thank you Mark, Hanse, Hajin, Jen and Luke for the amazing hospitality!
